Rules are Meant to be Broken

I am rule follower.

I rarely break the rules in life – that’s just a part of my type A personality. He he.

But what I have started to do is bend and sometimes break the rules when it comes to fashion. I just love the way fashion has progressed where colour blocking, pattern contradictions, and manipulating an outfit in a way that’s unique to you is totally acceptable now.

Pairing my new green wedges mentioned here with my royal blue peplum skirt mentioned here broke some of the rules.

The colours don’t necessarily complement each other. So I decided to wear a solid while t-shirt to ground the outfit. Adding another vibrant colour to the mix would have been a bit much. Yes, I am capable of paring down the flash when necessary. My white Fossil watch also added a casual element needed to also ground the outfit.

Remember, as long as your attitude matches your outfit, no one can call you out for breaking some of the rules. Wear it. Own it.

Chicana Cool

I can’t believe it’s been over a month since I last blogged. Life has been ridiculously FABULOUS! I am no longer a Vegas virgin. My baby brother is finally legal (what a fun night it was) and my gorgeous sister married the love of her life. There was so much going on and I was busy absorbing every minute of it. We had family from out of town and it has just been a blast! Now that all the festivities are done, I am slowly getting back to reality.

It’s absolutely gorgeous in Vancouver. The sun is shining and everyone is out and about. We were taking out cousins out for a night on the town, starting with drinks at Reflections at Hotel Georgia. The outdoor lounge has a Miami vibe and the drinks are like a good man…strong and delicious!

Linda wore a simple black dress with my coral blue chunky necklace. The pop of colour made the outfit summer night ready. I love the pockets as well.

I decided to pair a floral peplum skirt with a simple black top. I felt quite pretty in a hot Latina kind of way. The red floral print really made the entire outfit pop. Since I knew that I would be walking around a lot, I chose my black and brown platform shoes. I actually kept the accessories to a minimum. The outfit and the night was a success.

My Love Affair with Peplum

The last week and a half was crazy. An extremely close family friend passed away unexpectedly. I am reminded of my day's famous saying... "Life is short, make it sweet." Then I came down with the flu. Yuk! So even though I am about two weeks behind, it's nice to be back on the blog.

Let me tell you about my love affair with peplum.

My love affair with peplum happened in the fitting room at Forever XXI. I tried on a little black peplum dress thinking that it would not flatter my curvy figure. To my surprise, it was extremely flattering. It hugged my waist and accentuated my hips. I knew it was love at first try on when I stood on my tiptoes while doing my hair in several different ways in the mirror.

This was serious... Peplum and I were officially together.

I had to choose an outfit for a fun night out on the town with my friends a few weekends back. I pulled out three possible outfit choices and interestingly enough, they all involved an element of peplum! I had to incorporate black tights for a breezy Vancouver evening. I also knew that I wanted to pair my outfit with a large chunky necklace. I decided to be daring and chose to wear a pair of purple ankle boots with the outfit.
